Gooooaaal! So what?

Everyone is having the world cup fever. The epidemic is bringing the whole world to it’s knees. I think I’m one of the very few who is not infected at all.

Nope. I have not watched a single match of the world cup matches. Not a single one. And you can be sure I didn’t bet on any too. Word has it on the street that the bookies are losing like mad. I heard of 2-3 who already closed shop.

My brother on the other hand is a football fanatic. That includes everyone of his friends. It’s so funny to see everyone so into the mood.

So tell me. Are you one of them or one of me. I would sure like to know a few people who are not infected. Drop me a line if you’re one.

I’m what you would call a kaki bangku. I’m never good with sports which involves a ball except roller hockey. I’m more an extreme type of guy. I started skateboarding when I was like 13 and endangered my family jewels a few times. I skated so much my school teacher had to call my parents to complain about me skating aimlessly around town.

A few years later, I took up aggressive inline skating and then roller hockey while I was in Singapore. There were times I would be out and skating for more than 24 hours.

That was before I discovered extreme height diving. There was a mining pool near Bukit Timah which I used to frequent. It was of course stupid and dangerous. This pool is the size of about 10 football fields put together. The height you could jump from ranges from a puny half meter to probably about 10 storeys. It all depends on the size of your balls and your stupidity. The highest I’ve done is about 5-6 storeys.

I stopped doing that after there were too many reports of people drowning and dying there. Went to buy myself a new skateboard and started skating again for about a year or so.

Age gets to you after a while and now I reckon I would be able to take those falls again. I like to be closer with nature these days. What I’m doing now is only hiking and occasional geocaching.

What do you do for sports?

Like most Americans, I just don’t get the whole soccer, er, football thing. It’s not because I’m not a sports person either. Although no longer active in these sports, I use to be into volleyball, softball, and to a degree, basketball. When I was younger, biking was my thing, too. I use to skateboard and learned some tricks (Tony Hawk was my idol), but I eventually outgrew it and lost interest due to my active after school activities.

These days, I just stick to brisk walks on my teadmill.

oh i detest sports. used to rollerblade (stunts too) when i was in std 6- form2 but that’s about it. i canoe sometimes since im from penang and i did white water river rafting here (in san francisco). so errr apart from that, it’s just running in the gym and swimming once in a blue moon to keep from getting too fat. i did professional dance though.
would be cool to learn surfing.
