Configuring ZTE ZXDSL 831 as a router

The ZTE ZXDSL 831 is a modem/router supplied by Telekom. It works as a modem by default but you can change it to a router. In router mode, you don’t need to dial StreamyX anymore. The router will dial it for you automatically.

Configure to router mode.

  1. Login to http://192.168.1.1 with the username and password. If you don’t know the default username and password, please view ZTE ZXDSL 831 default password.
  2. When logged in, click on the WAN tab.
  3. Click on “ATM VC” and make sure interface aal5-0 VPI = 0 & VCI = 35, MUX = LLC, Max proto = 2.
  4. Click on “PPP” and then a new interface.
  5. Set the new interface as PPP interface = 0 ATM VC = aal5-0, protocol = PPoE, use DNS = enable, security = PAP. Don’t forget to set your Streamyx username@streamyx and also your password. Submit after that.
  6. After that, click on “Admin” and then “Commit” and then “Reboot”.

Once it’s done you should check your Internet connectivity by loading your favourite website.

You might want to speed up your P2P download speed by viewing Port forwarding ZTE ZXDSL 831 for better Bittorrent download speed.

Does your modem hangs-up from time to time?
It seems it is still connected, but the computer cannot access the Internet anymore.
I’m using a ZTE ZXDSL 831 as a router, and it’s always connected to the ADSL, the firmware is “ZXDSL 831V4.2_B04_BR”

    Regards

  3. toxicle on June 21st, 2005

Are you able to ping your modem? Perhaps you don’t have your IPs set properly on your client PC.

By the way, could you please let me know where I can find the new firmware?

  7. Awalk on July 12th, 2005

I’ ve a ZTE with ZXDSL 831V4.2_B04_AR release. I’m having the same problem that Wenderson. I lost my Internet connection at least once a day, & I lost the UPnP feature when I restart my Windows XP. I don’t know what’s happening, the configuration seems to be OK. The ZTE Technical Suppport Department don’t answered my emails yet.

  8. toxicle on July 12th, 2005

ZTE Technical Support would probably not answer your emails. I’m not familiar with the firmware that you’re using. You need to contact your local ISP for help on this one.

    Dear Toxicle,

Most fo your postings and replies are very useful, and a job well done :)
I just a have a problem which I hope you can help me out.

I just got my Streamyx service and a ZTE ZXDSL-831 modem. The problem is I’m sharing the internet connection among 3 PCs. I connected my modem to D-Link DL- 704 router and set the PPPoE on the router. However, the PPPoE shows that it’s not connected. I brought the router and the modem to be tested at the D-Link service centre(Malaysia dealer), and when tested at their place, it runs well.

Therefore, I was told that it could be the problem with the telephone/Streamyx port at my area. Is that true? Any solution to that.

FYI, if the modem is used directly on a PC, I can dial-up to the service and everthing runs smoothly.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Best regards,
    Kevin

  10. toxicle on August 24th, 2005

Kevin: If you plan to have your DL704 dial your ADSL connection, your modem should not be set to router mode.

    Try this

    1. HARD RESET your ZTE ZXDSL 831
    2. Connect the modem to the WAN port of your DL704
    3. Configure PPPOE on your DL704

Chances are it will work. Please take a look at the DSL light on your 831. It should be constantly ON without any blinking. If it’s blinking, then something is wrong with your StreamyX line … but I doubt it since you mentioned that you can dial direct from a PC.

    Hope this helps :)

  11. Kevin on August 25th, 2005

    Hi again Toxicle,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I’ve tried it earlier and even get a friend to troubleshoot it for me, but the D-Link router unable to dial to the modem through PPPoE.

The guy over the D-Link dealer tried it at his place and with my own account has no problem connecting to the net through the router and modem. He concluded that the line in my area will be the culprit.

Currently, I’m turning my D-Link router into an expensive hub, hahaha… But the connection is terrible; quite frequent “Request time out” and sometimes “Destination Host Unreachable”.
Could it be the setting? My ZTE moedm firmware is V4.2_B04_AR.

I set the modem to PPPoE and enable the DHCP. Then I set my D-Link router IP to 192.168.1.2 and disable its DHCP. I connect the modem to one of the 4 LAN ports available, leaving the WAN port unused. All the PCs’ IP are set to “Obtain an IP address automatically”.

The result: Sometimes my PC will slow down and often “Request time out” and my friend’s PC has fast connection and sometimes the other way round and sometimes both of us faced the same situation…

    Please advise. Thousands of thanks.

    Best regards,
    Kevin

  12. toxicle on August 25th, 2005

This is a strange case but I think the problem lies on your router. I’ve used the 704 some time back and have experienced connection problems with it. Be sure that you have the latest firmware on it.

I don’t see why you can connect at their place and not yours … if the settings are the same. There’s nothing wrong with your line since you can dial direct from a PC.

If you are dialing from the router, be sure to disable router mode on 831.

Since you are using the 831 as a router … I guess it kinda solves the problem. I have a tip to free 1 of your LAN ports. You can still connect your WAN port to your 831. Just select Static IP instead of PPPOE.

  13. Kevin on August 25th, 2005

Thanks again Toxicle. Yes, initially, the 831 is by factory default (bridge-modem) and I set the 704 to PPPoE. I was told normally the 704 will show the connection instantly once the modem is fixed to it. But it’s not the case here.

Disable the router mode on 831? You mean disable DHCP on the 831? Ok, will try it.

So, I should enable the DHCP of 704 and select the WAN to Static IP. Should I configure the Static IP? Should my 831 IP will be set to 192.168.1.1 and my 704 IP set to 192.168.1.2 or to 192.168.0.1?

Thanks for the help and suggestion :) It’s much appreciated.

    Best regards,
    Kevin

  18. toxicle on September 20th, 2005

    Dear all,

I have the ZTE ZXDSL 831 and I want to connect it to a linkys BEFSR41 router I alreday had. Thus I fixed:
+ ZTE ZXDSL to 192.168.1.1 + pppoE connexion + router + no DHCP
    + BEFRS41 to static WAN:
    IP 192.168.1.2
    gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS 192.168.1.1
    and LAN:
    DHCP for adresses 192.168.1.x, x>100
    gateway an router enable,.

I can not connect to internet from computer. I can of course connect form modem directly, fixing an IP to my computer. I surely did not fix something the good way, but what ? Do I have to forward the TCP port form the modem to the router ? And if so, how do I do this ?

Any help would be really appreciated !
    Mathieu

  23. toxicle on October 28th, 2005

Do it the other way round. Use your ZXDSL 831 as a modem then the BEFRSR41 as a router to dial your StreamyX.

  24. Mathieu on October 28th, 2005

Thanks ! I will try this way.

Check your current IP assigned by the device. Maybe it’s different settings they have from your telecom. Just replace the last segment with .1 or .254 and you should be ok.

What if i use a straight cable to connect from the modem(ZTE 831) to my switch? will it be a problem like frequent disconnection or it is a must to use a cross over cable?

    hi all,
i have subscrided Streamyx 1Mb for home user.
previously, i used the method of manual dial up, and no problem with bittorrent downloading. because of we need to share the internet services, so i set our ZTE ZXDSL831 as a router and dial-up automatically.

the problem occur after i set my ZTE modem as router, when i try to download using bittorent, the speed was extreamly slow, jz only 10++ Kbit/sec, and most of the time doesnt have any response(mean that 0 Kbit/sec). when i open the bit torrent download s/w and checked, i found that it only can find maximum 4 to 6 peers in the same time, sometime 0.

when i noticed this problem, i try to reset back my modem, and dial-up manualy, the downloading speed totally different, it can up 60 to 70 Kbit/sec.

i have try to set my modem by following the guideline provided above, but still face the same problems.

    pls advice, 10x…

  49. toxicle on January 16th, 2006

If changing it to router mode is giving you problems then I can’t help much as there are so many difference versions and firmwares.

Jodi: If your firmware works fine there’s no need to upgrade it.

    prob: hard reset it.

Hong: The ZTE 831 is very popular and there are many versions out there. Download speeds can vary from time to time. The important part is to see your ADSL line status. Check your downstream data rate. Also use the TMNET speedchecker to check instead of just downloading some file off the net.

If your downstream data rate is not what you’re supposed to get, you have every right to complain to TMNET and get them to fix it.

Let is simple, if u not familliar about router configuration just make it manual connection (dialer) :P

u can get so many problem using the autoconnection and cannot trace what the problem if u unable to make connection. no error message appear!

    Streamyx user :
    1) bout the speed problem,
    - try to do stand alone connection (from main telephone socket direct to the modem n 1pc only)
    - try to flushdns
    - clear browser cache(temp, history, cookies)
    - restart pc and check ur speed at http://202.188.95.52:8080/speedometer/
    - ur speed atleast 70% from ur package

    2) frequent disconnection
    - if ur connnection is around 30minutes and automaticaly disconnet, that is frequent disconnection.
    - this problems happen because this 4 factor
    ~ house alarm system
    ~ splitter or fax machine
~ the router modem configuration (autoconnection)
~ the telephone line quality (make sure have a clear tone wihout any noise). if got, call 100
    - all this thing can intterupt the streamyx line

    3) b4 want to configure ur modem to be a router modem, please ensure ur package.
~ PPoA - fix ip provide from isp (RM 416 above)
    ~ PPoE - dynamic ip (DHCP) - (RM99 below)
    - so for the PPoE, no need to setting up ur ip, just obtain ip automatically

    4) streamyx DNS server (preferred - 202.188.0.133), (alternate - 202.188.1.5)
    - VPI is 0
    - VCI is 35

Important : Please make sure your DSL/Link light Stable, if blinking, call help support

It is highly unlikely I know…but when I do a hard reset…all those settings remained.

  75. toxicle on May 2nd, 2006

KS: How did you hard reset? Did you hold on to the button for more than 10 secs while replugging in the power?

i have a problem with my modem…i use ZTE ZXDSL 831 v4.2 …at the advanced, there’s only LAN and WAN…no NAT etc…so,how am i going to do the portforward…whats wrong with my modem…??

  79. Guest1 on May 30th, 2006

Hi everyone, I actually stumbled upon this website when I was trying to find out how to perform a port forwarding for my modem ZTE ZXDSL 831. I got Streamyx couple of years back and have never even entered the modem settings. Now, after I entered, I noticed my S/W version is VIK-1.38.030917b and the mode is currently set to Routing and Bridging. Speed seems about right. I can view the tabs above the page “LAN” “WAN” “Bridging” “Routing” “Services” and “Admin” but clicking on those tabs does not bring me to the desired page. It’s pretty much stuck at “System View”. I feel kinda like a novice asking this, but what’s wrong? Do I need to update my software? Thanks for your time guys!

  80. toxicle on May 30th, 2006

Mathan: Try using a different browser to access the tabs. If all fails then there must be something wrong with your firmware. ZTE do not provide firmware upgrades … updating from an unreliable source may turn your modem into a brick. Upgrade with care …. good luck.

BTW are you Mathan from Penang working in Sega?

  81. Guest1 on May 30th, 2006

Hi toxicle, okay…will try that. Appreciate your prompt reply. Nope, that’s not me. I’m from KL. Anyway, thanks again for your help.

    Wassup guys,
i think this forum only for zte modem. so if u using the different modem, the login and password to go to setting your modem config is different. but almost the standart adress is 192.168.1.1

and for the hard reset.. just wat the mr toxicle told. press and hold around 10 sec and Make Sure you Modem must be ON!! you can see the light at the modem off for a few sec and then blinking.. Gd luck!

I want to share my files in my PC THROUGH THE INTERNET. I’m using a third party software called WWW Fileshare Pro. My IP is Dynamic and using ZTE ZXDSL 831. Is it really possible to share my files even if the IP is dynamic? Everytime someone check my internet IP, it is always REDIRECTED to my router. How can I configure my router or work with this problem? I think my router has a firewall. How can i disable it?

    My network setup:
    INTERNET>ROUTER (ZXDSL 831)>18in1 Dlink HUB>3 PC’s

  86. toxicle on June 13th, 2006

Panjong: Use a service like dyndns.org. You need to do port forwarding to point to your PC running WWW Fileshare Pro. Not too sure about the settings needed for your app. Another way is to place your PC in the DMZ.

You’re behind NAT and it’s firewall. Do port forwarding instead of disabling your firewall and NAT. It’s the proper way of doing things. Have fun.

  87. Panjong on June 13th, 2006

THAT was fast:-) THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

Sorry to ask this? BUT what is DMZ? I don’t know the term. I am really a newbie on this. Can you please SIR give a step by step procedure to set this properly.

  96. Del on July 4th, 2006

    For magnored:
I’ve flashed my router with your version and I cannot enter in the config page anymore after hard reseting it. I’m using the PPPoE software and my computer has assumed the IP 169.254.17.238, not 192.168.1.2 anymore. The router IP 192.168.1.1 doesn’t work anymore. Do you know what is the new router IP so that I can enter in the config?? I’ve already looked for the standard gateway field but it is empty!! Testing 169.254.17.(from1-to254) wouldn’t be a good idea, because it takes to long in each test process.

Anyone who has and OV ended firmware is probably able to help me too, saying the way it’s used to connect to the config page.

I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

    Yours faithfully,
    Daniel

I had configured the ZXDSL 831 into router through the steps as the above. After that, I connect it to the switch, D-Link DES-1008D. There are 2 PCs that sharing with the switch. However, it often timeout and sometimes it show that ‘destination not reach’. What is happening? What IP add that i need to set? or just let it automatically set IP? I tried ‘automatically set IP’, but it not work and still often timeout. What should i do? It is I need to set IP add in the ZXDSL 831? If so, what and which one i need to change? Please anyone can help me to solve this problem.

I am using ZXDSL 831 router modem , but I haven’t understood how to realy configure it. I have add Pppoe 0_35 LLC MUX and It does n’t work and I cann’t share my internet connection directly from my routeur adsl .

can you please be so clearly

  102. toxicle on August 6th, 2006

John69: DHCP is on by default. I don’t know why it’s not working for you. You can set your IP manually for it to work though.

fai: This could be a problem with your 831. I can’t provide support for the hardware failure.

Sonny: Use the filters or firewall rules.

chergui: In order to share you need to set it to router mode as described above and connect the 831 to a switch then share them via the switch since the 831 only has one LAN port. If you are using it directly to a single machine, you should not try to use the dialer. Just connect the port and use.

  103. wantanmee on August 6th, 2006

i am using zxdsl 831 router modem, i already set my modem as router mode by following the instruction you provide above. and i use d-link 5 port switch to connect between 2 computer and the modem. but my adsl ‘line’ is very unstable and will always disconnect. when i open msn messager, my msn always disconnect and the bittorrent speed is also extreamly slow sometime even get 0kbps up and download rate. i ready forwarded my bittorrent port, but still cant work. y?

  104. toxicle on August 6th, 2006

wantanmee: I only provide steps to turn your 831 into a router and do not provide any support if you face any problems. There are many factors that may cause the problems. You should try to narrow them down one by one. In any case, if the problem still persist you should go back to use it as before.

Not sure about your torrent speeds. You should verify that you made the forwarding correctly. Also note that traffic shaping is in place for TMNET.

Dear Friends, I have two streamyx conection in my office, and have two modems , one is ZTE(ZXDSL 831) and other is DSL-500T (D-link Router/modem) …. Now the most intresting thing is that when i connect the ZTE modem with one PC i have v good speed BUT when i connect though DSL_500T the speed is half on that same PC… both r new.. Now what i thing is that ZTE uses normal windows connection and D-link router has its own automatic connection.

Can some one please tell me how to configure DSL-500T such that it uses normal windows connection (just act like ZTE modem) thanks…………..

  106. toxicle on August 23rd, 2006

Akbar: Are you comparing both modems/router on the same line or different line? You could have subscribed to different package on both lines.

Not too sure about dialing DSL-500T direct … you need to check the manual.

  134. toxicle on December 9th, 2006

Prashant: Did you try http://192.168.11.1 ? Which IP did you try to ping? If all fails, then do a hard reset. Switch off the device, press and HOLD the reset button for 10 seconds while switching it on. Hope that helps

  135. Prashant on December 11th, 2006

Thanks for your quick reply. I tried it and it worked. Now I am able to get to the configuration screen. My ADSL service provider tried to configure my ADSL Modem by adding a new PPPoE connection. However, it gave an error stating that a configuration already existed (Name of configuration b-0-32). I deleted the configuration from the ZXDSL 831D modem and then added a new PPPoE connection. It added successfully. When I connected my phone line with the ADSL modem, the ADSL light becomes stable. When I check the status of the modem, I get a pppoe connection with some ip address which I think is provided by the Service Provider’s side. However, I am still unable to browse any web site. I also see an embedded Static Route where in the destination is 0.0.0.0, default gateway is 192.168.2.1 with subnet mask as 255.255.255.0. I cannot delete this static route. I have an option of specifying DNS Relays which I am not sure of. Also, I get an option of enabling DHCP wherein I can specify the preferred and alternate DNS servers. My Service Provider said that I should leave the LAN settings to obtain ip address and dns servers automatically and I should get an automatic ip. But I can only get it when I enable the DHCP on the ZXDSL 831D. I am totally confused as to what to do to make it work. My service provider is unable to help me other than the option of getting another ADSL modem of their specification or pay them rent get theirs. Could you please help me in getting my own modem configured?

  136. toxicle on December 12th, 2006

Prashant: Hard reset your modem and follow the instructions above. You should not change any settings not mentioned. From the long explanation you did, I figured it’s just configuration problems. If you want to change the default IP to something else than 192.168.1.1 then you need to know what you’re doing. Leave it as default and follow the step by step and you should be fine.

    Hi toxicle,

Currently, I have 2 PCs and I would like to link up this 2 PCs for file sharing and internet connection.

I already set the ZTE ZXDSL 831 as a router.

My 1st PC which I use to configure the Modem to Router is working well and I can directly access to Internet without manually dialling it. I never set any IP address for TCP/IP under Local Area Connection.

Problem now is my 2nd PC can link to 1st PC and I can even share files and printers but I CANNOT share the Internet Connection.

The IP address I set for my 2nd PC under TCP/IP is:

    IP Add: 192.168.1.x
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1

The default IP address for 1st PC under Local Area Connection Status under Support is:

    Add Type: Assigned by DHCP
    IP Add: 192.168.1.X
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Pls assist me on that. Your kind respond is much appreciated. THANKS

JT: May I ask how you are connecting your 1st and 2nd PC to the network? Could you try using the cable for the 1st PC on the 2nd PC?

  140. JT on December 23rd, 2006

    Hi toxicle,

    Firstly thanks for reply.

    Currently, I connected my 2 PCs to a 5-Port Switch (Linksys SD205).

Now my 1st PC is working well.

I need my 2nd PC to be shared the internet connection and file sharing and I need it to be able to online even though my 1st PC is off, and I just have to turn on my modem and switch.

So toxicle, is there any idea on that?

  141. toxicle on December 23rd, 2006

    JT: Ok …

Both computers connected to 5 port switch and another cable from the 831 to the switch right?

    Set your 2nd PC manually
    IP Add: 192.168.1.20
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1

You didn’t mention if the router’s DHCP is working for you but nevermind.

From your 2nd PC DOS prompt.
    >ping 192.168.1.1

You should get replies. If not then it could be one of the below problems.
    1. Not physically connected. Eg. cable disconnected, loose etc.
    2. Firewall blocking
    3. Networking not configured properly.
    4. Some virus or trojan blocking or eating up network resources.

If you get replies then you should check if you are able to access the Internet.
    >ping 192.228.128.20

192.228.128.20 is the IP of jaring.my

    If it’s ok then
    >ping jaring.my
At this stage if you have problems, then it’s your DNS settings. Your system not being able to translate domain name into IP.

You should use the NS servers below for your setting if the route is not automatically assigning them.
    202.188.0.133
    202.188.1.5

If all fails … then you should consult someone to do it for you. It’s pretty hard to diagnose based on only your descriptions. Good luck

i wanna ask anybody here…i have home network shared with 6 ppl. if someone download anything from internet using torrent, is there any effect with the connection…i mean can it be slow to surf internet or difficult to connect with Yahoo messenger…and any solution to prevent or block someone from downloading..thanx..i use ZTE ZXDSL 831..any setting??

  147. toxicle on January 12th, 2007

N@2: I would have no idea.

saiful: Of course if you’re downloading at full speed. I’m not sure if the 831 have QOS setting if not you can trottle your download speed with your Torrent client.

  148. Alina on February 3rd, 2007

I’ve read through the comments and I’ve already downloaded a firmware that was linked to here. It was a zip file containing a file named ZXDSL 831V4.2.f_B04_OV. Where could I find the flash program?

  149. Alina on February 3rd, 2007

Sorry :”> I’ve found the link to upgrade my firmware in the admin page. I read the portforward.com about forwarding port but the NAT option is not available in my advanced tab. what should I do??

  150. toxicle on February 3rd, 2007

Alina: First of all. May I ask why you are upgrading your firmware? Are you having any problems? As you know, the ZXDSL 831 is used in many parts of the world and the firmware posted may not be compatible for your use. That is the reason I do not post it on my post.

I’m sorry but I do not support any firmware problems.

this is what i did…(set all the password and user name in the wireless router and disable the briging in the 831)…izzit correct???
if so…but i still cant geet the connection…..
    Please anyone???

  155. Jerry20 on February 22nd, 2007

can anyone show me step by step how to make it works?

  156. toxicle on February 22nd, 2007

Jerry20: It can’t get any more step by step. Just follow the steps above.

  157. naTTan on February 22nd, 2007

I am in Sabah, in my parents home. All i can say is the sub contractors here who made the house a wireless hub is a cheapskate. I am using a DCL GW-AP54SG Router, which as far as i know have no port forward capabilities, but yet i can’t get any connection coming thru my line. It acts more like a bridge, with no PPoE to access the modem with or anything, quite crappy in my opinion. Now the modem is the ZTE, i can’t access it behind the router, and i can’t connect to it by direct connection, since all the computers here have their LAN card taken out to be replaced by a Wifi card. So can you direct me on how to access the modem? And is the problem with the utorrent coming from the router or the modem. Firewall is all off.

  158. Jerry20 on February 22nd, 2007

if i reset the 831…izzit also disable the router after i reset it?

  159. toxicle on February 23rd, 2007

naTTan: Set the 831 into router mode and connect to the AP via cable on it’s ethernet port. Don’t blame the GW-AP54SG cos it’s not a router but an AP. Port forwarding should be done on the 831 side.

    Jerry20: Yes.

  160. Jerry20 on February 23rd, 2007

after i reset it…i still can’t get the connection when the wireless router link to the modem…thats the problem im facing here…

  161. naTTan on February 23rd, 2007

Thx, yeah i know it’s not a router but crappy set up IMHO. Btw, can you guide me step by step on how to set up the modem as a router, cause as of now, i think the firmware is different. I’ll give you the step-by-step question asked.

  162. toxicle on February 23rd, 2007

Jerry20: Have you configured the wireless router to dial out? You need to configure your router if not it won’t be able to connect magically.

naTTan: I’m sorry but I can’t support every different version firmware. You can easily get the information you require from my article above.
VPI=0 VCI=35 (This is for Malaysia only)
Use PPPOE and enter your username and password … reboot and commit.

    Nothing else should be configured.

  163. naTTan on February 23rd, 2007

Thanks yeah i just configured it thru some troubleshooting and a couple of reset. Haih, i wish when normal non-IT minded consumers ask for a wifi hub next time TMnet would not give such a lousy set up.

  164. toxicle on February 23rd, 2007

naTTan: So it’s working fine now? Glad to know that :)

    Hi,

Does anyone know how to connect ZTE ZxDSL 831 as a modem and LinkSys WRT54G wireless router?? I would like to have my WRT54G to dial via PPPoE. But so far I was unable to get 2 of them working.

So far, I have tried reset ZXDSL 831 to factory default (which it should be in bridge mode) and the setup my login info on WRT54G but couldn’t connect to internet at all.

Is there anything I need to change in ZXDSL 831??

    Thanks

i found the site and configured my ZXDSL 831 exactly as above from the default settings.

Problem is I got an error saying my PPP Authorization Failed. After that error there will be following errors, PPP is down, etc. Does this mean the username and passowrd i provided is wrong? Or is there something wrong with my setting?

    @to Toxicle

i configure my ZTE zxdsl 831 modem to my dlink DL704 router to my swicth. i runs well and can browse the internet over a 15 computers.

    the problem is this:

First: i can’t attach in my yahoo mail and cannot browse hotmail emails.
    EMAIL Sending fails.

all devices it set to default, no ip filtering and no firewall..

2nd: What type of connection cable i will use

modem to router (is it crossover or straight?)
router to switch (is it crossover or straight?)

  183. toxicle on June 18th, 2007

I don’t see why browsing the Internet is fine but you can’t send emails only to yahoo and hotmail. It’s not like they’re some P2P software. Please check with them. Or try some other accounts like gmail and see if you have problems …

You should be using all straight cables.

But when I connect the pc to the router to the modem, all the necessary light is on and the pc show it connect to the router but just does not connect to the internet. I want to set ZXDSL 831 with Linksys WRT54GC.
I was changing ZXDSL 831 to router mode and it works very well. But WRT54GC doesn’t work. How can I set up WRT54GC?

  189. toxicle on July 30th, 2007

    ryle: Consult your Asus manual.
Cecilia: You need to consult your Mentor manual. You need to set up your router to dial StreamyX instead of using your PC.
Jerome: Disable router mode on your 831 and use your WRT54GC as a router it should be.

Hi, I´ve got a ZTE 831 which was configured with a 4 port switch as a router, connected to 2 PC´s
Now I´ve got a MSI wireless router which replaced the switch for allowing 2 notebooks. Now, I have the problem that i cant access internet. Maybe (guess) there is a conflict between both devices. I think i have to configure the 831 as a simple modem, but i dont know how to do it. Any help is welcome

  201. toxicle on April 27th, 2008

    fernando: Hard reset your 831

bingung: Did you enable router mode? Your IP would not be in that range if you didn’t enable router mode.

tw8801: There is an option to change password. Look around.

Faizan: If you bother to read this article, you wouldn’t be asking how to configure the 831 as a router right?

FAD: What exception are you talking about?

joe: This is device does not need driver or software.

ARnold: I do no supply firmwares. You’re on your own here.

Irosh: AFAIK there is no QOS feature for the 831 but I may be wrong.
