HOWTO: USB Flash Drive for mobility & security

I have 12 webmail and 4 POP mail accounts. Yeah I know that’s a lot. I hate it when emails from a single mailbox are stored on 2 different computers. That is why I only have Thunderbird installed on my notebook. The action sparked off another problem. When working on my desktop, I need to switch on my notebook to retrieve my mails.

This post is an update of the last post titled
What do you stuff in your USB Drive?

Here’s my current stuffings on my new 1G flash drive.

Portable Thunderbird with Enigmail/GPG
From now on, I will be carrying my emails and addressbook wherever I go and can access them on any Windows PC. Thunderbird runs and stores emails on my flash drive.

Portable Firefox
This is what I’m using to type this post. Portable Firefox runs directly from my drive and I have all my bookmarks, extensions and web passwords with me. Those passwords are of course encrypted with a master password. One setback of this portable version is that webpages are not cached(to prevent wear on your flash drive).

TrueCrypt
With all that private and sensitive data stored on your flash drive, you have to be sure noone can access your information in case you drop or lose your flash drive. I use TrueCrypt to encrypt the whole disk.

Oh yes … regular backups of your flash drive is highly recommended.

You may want to consider these free ones.
